About

Barbara Miller Meeker is a nationally and locally acclaimed artist and educator.

Born Barbara Ann Miller in Peru, Indiana, she was raised in a family who celebrated creativity.  Barbara went on to achieve her Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University in 1952, after which she taught art in public schools and founded B&B Design Studios with her husband, Bill Meeker.  She joined Purdue University’s faculty in 1965, where she served as a professor in the Department of Architectural Technology on the Calumet campus for 25 years. She developed new courses, championed the display of student artwork, coordinated the acquisition and placement of a valued collection of art on campus, and engaged the broader community in art through participating in many art associations and bringing the Very Special Arts Program, an international program for children with disabilities, to the Calumet campus. For her exemplary service, Purdue honored her as Professor Emerita of Architectural Technology.

The artwork and jewelry Barbara has created throughout her life reflect the things she loves and the landscapes that surround her. She has travelled the world painting beautiful landscapes from the Western United States to Spain but is also well-known for her industrial paintings that feature the unexpected beauty of industrial settings in Northwest Indiana -- her home of over 60 years -- through abstracted realism.

Her local, state, and national awards can be viewed here.  Her works hang in more than 25 public and corporate collections.
